Modern mobility for local transit
This funicular has taken Luxembourg a big step closer to achieving its 2020 mobility goal
The Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funicular, which officially opened on December 10, 2017, is an important link in the City of Luxembourg’s public transit concept. The funicular’s four cars carry over 6,000 passengers an hour along the 200 m route from the historic old quarter Pfaffenthal up to the busy Kirchberg plateau with a trip time of just 63 seconds. The interior is designed to match other means of transport in the city. Standing room with grab rails and handrails is a major requirement for the short trip. The generously dimensioned glazing lets plenty of daylight into the compartments and helps to ensure a pleasant sense of space.
